The lotus flower has long been a symbol for the unfolding of ourselves. It is one of the most elegant illustrations of the meshing of our human and Divine natures.
The lotus seed is planted and grows in muddy waters, below the surface of a lake, far from the light. Though the light is murky and unclear, the flower blossoms by drawing energy from within. As the bud passes through the muddy waters, it lifts its face to the sunlight and finally emerges. Miraculously, not a trace of soil remains on the flower. It lives in the mud yet is unaffected by it. This is an example for us to be in the world but not be adversely affected by it. The lotus flower teaches us that no matter how muddied the waters of our consciousness & earth school may become, clarity can always emerge from our spirit.
The journey of the sacred lotus flower can reflect the journey on our yoga mat. We are all firmly rooted into the earth: we have to deal with challenges that life throws at us. We all have our responsibilities and to-do lists. It becomes harder and harder to slow down, to step away from the noise and stress of the external life at least for a few moments and release our minds from all that needs to be taken care of. Living in the "fight-or-flight" state all the time begins to take toll on us, resulting in many health issues and early aging.
Much like a lotus flower, we may often feel stuck in the mud of everything that is going on or that doesn't work out for us. But then, one day, we may hear a little wisdom that cracks open from a lotus, from our deeper sense of being. And so our journey begins. Through the muddy waters of suffering we reach for the light of wisdom, which is always shining for us, if we take the time to notice it.
The ultimate promise of yoga for well-being and happiness is that through enough determination and nurturing, we will surface above the water, move through the hard times and realize our full potential.
In the end, we cannot know what joy and living in the light feels like without first experiencing the darkness.
We must rise up, shake off the heaviness & shine bright!
Not always easy, but it helps to have other lights around us to brighten our difficult days.
This light we feel from you every time you step through the studio door and arrive on your mat so we thank you, we are grateful for you and we are here for you any time you need us.
Love and light,
The yoga at the lake Family
Student Inspiration of the Month
Student of the Month is Ron! Thank you so much for sharing Ron!
Before & after pictures of him are above!
Here is his testimonial....
Yoga and yoga at the lake studio have changed the quality of my life.
I started with a stretch and therapy ball class about 2 1/2 years ago, since I was having a fair bit of neck and upper back issues. At that time I would see a chiropractor regularly - about once every three weeks, and had some temporary relief but the pain would return.
I had made a point to take a yoga class at the studio on a weekly basis. As I had done this, I also discovered that I had lost a lot of mobility in some of my joints.
By taking regular classes with Janelle, I now enjoy a life without neck or back pain, increased mobility and a better quality of life.
Yoga at the lake studio and practicing regularly have changed my life for the better. I would encourage anyone to try it...and to keep practicing.

“Food is the code that programs your biology.
Food isn’t just what keeps us going and gives us energy. It’s everything to our bodies. What we eat is actually information for every part of us, so it is vital that people realize how important good, whole food is.
We are constantly renewed with what we put in our mouths, so when you choose your next meal, you need to decide what you want to be made out of.”
